GLOW IN THE DARK ART SHOW

Bless this pandemic lockdown for continuing to push our creativity to the next level. We’re keeping it fresh by displaying art work a new way – in the form of a glow in the dark art show! The girls were the perfect hosts for this family event and their brilliant explanations of each art piece made sitting on the hardwood floor allllllll worth it

WHAT YOU NEED:

  • paper

  • fluorescent paint colours

  • paintbrushes

  • UV flashlight

  • washi tape or painter’s tape

  • nighttime!

HOW TO MAKE:

  1. Have a painting party using fluorescent paint! Anything goes! Your artists will know what to do once the materials are laid out for them

  2. After the paintings are dry, create a gallery wall by taping up all of the fluorescent paintings.

  3. Once dark, invite guests to come to the evening art show! Illuminate artwork using a UV flashlight and let the crowd admire in awe!

ACTIVITY EXTENSION:

  • This is the perfect summer event for your community! Gather some pals and host an art show in your neighbourhood! Paintings can be taped to the side of the house, garden shed or garage

  • Use this same idea to create a model solar system or night sky. Get cozy with pillows and blankets on your living room floor while you “gaze up” and learn some astronomy together

CONNECTION STARTERS:

  • Tell me more about this painting.

  • Which colour is your favourite?

  • What painting are you most proud of?

  • What inspired you to paint this?

  • What do you notice about the paintings when you use a normal flashlight versus a UV flashlight?

THINGS TO CELEBRATE & ENCOURAGE:

  • painting with care

  • helping with clean-up or art show set-up

  • sharing more about art pieces

  • using flashlights as instructed

We hope this activity is one you can pull out at your next family night! Once covid ends, we can’t wait to give this a try with friends

Happy connecting, Sweet Friends!

XOXO,

Lindsay
