Friends, I went from caring less about baseball to staying awake until 2am (on a school night!!!!) cheering for the Toronto Blue Jays. I learned their names, researched their stories & stats, Googled spitters and sinkers, and needed tissues beside me during most games. Their heart. Their perseverance. Their team spirit. Their bedazzled home run jacket. Their fan community. Their ability to make friends out of strangers in passing. Their impact on our togetherness as a nation. I'm a Toronto Blue Jays fan FOR LIFE.
Of course, anything THIS epic requires celebratory art-making. These paper Blue Jays are all about playing around with materials you have and seeing what you think. We liked edgy curves, but you can totally go for gentler curves. We liked different textures and shades of blue, but YOU DO YOU! Just enjoy the process while reminiscing on a fabulous season! <3
WHAT YOU NEED:
blue paper (we had a variety!)
black cardstock
white cardstock
black Sharpie
gluestick
scissors
HOW TO MAKE:
Choose a square background to glue your pieces onto.
Begin to cut the head, neck and body pieces. We liked an edgy look and so we stuck to sharp edges rather than curves. Glue these pieces down first.
Continue cutting paper pieces for the wings. We liked the look of layering two pieces and then adding smaller paper details. Glue these next!
Create fringe-cut paper pieces to glue onto the top of the head and the tail. Play around with textures, colours and sizes until you're happy with your blue jay :)
Add a beak and legs.
Cut out a white circle for the eye and use a black Sharpie to create the pupil.

I love them so much! The paper blue jays and the baseball Blue Jays :)
When does next season start? (Another question I need to research....)
Happy creating,
Love Linds XOXO
