HOSTA LEAF GHOST PUPPETS

Fancy yourself some dinnertime theatre at the mud kitchen?

THEN LOOK NO FURTHER!

These Hosta Leaf Ghost Puppets are full of cuteness and personality! Head out to the garden and get clipping

WHAT YOU NEED:

  • hosta leaves

  • sticks

  • white paint

  • sharpie markers

  • tape

  • white glue

  • things for embellishing (pom-poms, foam, felt, etc.)

HOW TO MAKE:

  1. Collect hosta leaves (and sticks!) from the garden. Don’t worry, we won’t tell your household gardener

  2. Paint the leaves white. We gave ours two coats!

  3. Draw a face on your ghost using Sharpie markers.

  4. Give your ghost some personality by adding accessories like bows, hats, buttons, or hairbows!

  5. Tape a stick on the backside of your leaf to create a puppet!

ACTIVITY EXTENSION:

  • I wasn’t kidding about dinner theatre! Get outside and host a puppet show, kids!

CONNECTION STARTERS:

  • What is your puppet’s name?

  • Describe your puppet’s personality!

  • What will your puppet’s voice sound like?

  • What other ways could we use hosta leaves?

  • What other materials could we use to make puppets?

THINGS TO CELEBRATE & ENCOURAGE:

  • Identifying hosta leaves and choosing some for art-making

  • Finding sticks in backyard or on nature walk

  • Applying paint over leaf’s surface

  • Creativity with facial features and accessories

  • Engaging in conversation starters

We hope you have lots of not-too-spooky fun with your nature-made puppets! Remember to tag us @theartstadium so we can applaud your creations

Happy connecting!

XOXO,

Lindsay
