LEAF PORTRAITS WITH BARBIE

Have you ever seen those incredible portraits of people posing with chalk drawings? You know, a person “swimming at the beach”, “riding in a hot air balloon”, or “going down a slide?” Well, that’s where the idea for this activity came from! Except we chose to use nature instead of chalk because…….over a decade in the desert will do that to ya!

WHAT YOU NEED:

  • leaves

  • sticks

  • scissors

  • Barbies

HOW TO MAKE:

  1. Use scissors to cut leaves into various shapes, based on what you hope to create.

  2. Arrange your pieces on a solid background – we chose white so the leaves would really pop!

  3. Use sticks as needed (we used ours for a fairy wand and for balloon strings!)

  4. Add Barbie to the frame

ACTIVITY EXTENSION:

  • Take pictures of each creation, print them, and use the photos to write a story about your Barbie(s)!

CONNECTION STARTERS:

  • What kind of leaves are you using?

  • Where did you find your leaves?

  • What scenes will you create for Barbie today?

  • Have you ever tried making chalk portraits?

  • Which of your creations do you like the best? Why?

THINGS TO CELEBRATE & ENCOURAGE:

  • safe use of scissors

  • brainstorming ideas

  • creativity

  • placement of leaf parts to make an identifiable scene!

We’re excited to see what your Barbies get up to Please tag us so we can see your leaf portraits too!

Happy connecting!

XOXO,

Lindsay
